Monta Ellis has 35 as Warriors prevail in Utah

"Warriors coach Keith Smart estimated that Monta Ellis has the power to single-handedly will his team to about five wins a season.

Depending on how you judge the solo-willing feat, Ellis already might have surpassed the number, but he left no question that he was adding to the total in the Warriors' getaway to the All-Star break Wednesday.

On a night of generally disjointed action that reeked of two teams that played games away from Salt Lake City the previous night, Ellis sparked a 107-100 victory over Utah at Energy Solutions Arena.

While everyone around him was prone to the flubbed play or the sluggish effort, and the game was even postponed by a power outage from the blustery snow and winds outside, Ellis spent his night knifing through the Utah defense for 35 points and seven assists.

He scored 11 of his 23 second-half points in the fourth quarter, including five straight that put the Warriors ahead 99-92 with 2:51 remaining.

"This is exactly one of his will games," Smart said. "All you need is to keep the game close, and then he's going to find a way to win it."

Stephen Curry made a reverse layup - his first basket in seven attempts - with 31.7 seconds left to give the Warriors a 105-100 lead. "The rim was about 10-feet-2, and I rattled a few out," he joked. "But I made one shot, so I'm happy."

The Warriors (26-29) have won seven of their past nine games, closing to three shy of .500 for the first time since Dec. 5. At the 55-game mark, they've matched last season's win total and have improved by 10 victories from this point last season."
