"Considering it was his first game of the season and only his second time on the court in front of a crowd since the Cavaliers essentially began anew, Mo Williams felt pretty good about it all Wednesday.
Williams' 12-point performance on 4-for-12 shooting against Atlanta on Tuesday night wasn't awful. It wasn't fantastic. It was just a step in the direction toward reclaiming his game and his place on the team -- and maybe even a bit of his old swagger.
Williams, who once was supposed to be merely a sidekick to Batman for these Cavaliers is now one of a handful of seasoned veterans counted on to lead a crew of youngsters.
As Cleveland has stumbled to 1-3, Williams has played just one of those games. He first sat to nurse a groin injury suffered just before training camp opened, then missed five days of the preseason to attend the funeral of his father-in-law.
He could be back in the starting lineup for Friday's game at Philadelphia, though coach Byron Scott hasn't indicated if he'll make that move yet.
Williams admitted Wednesday that he's still learning how to read the Princeton offense, something that is more difficult in games than in practice.
"In the game everything's on the fly, you have to do things instinctively," Williams said. "So getting that game-time flow is vital. It was a good start." "
