MLB says All-Star Game attendance now mandatory, looks like shot at Yankees' Derek Jeter

"Derek Jeter, pay heed: starting in 2012, all major league players elected to the All-Star Game will be required to play in the Midsummer Classic, unless they are injured or are excused by the commissioner's office. The rule is part of MLB's new collective bargaining agreement.

The Yankee captain and starting shortstop ruffled some feathers last year when he elected to skip the All-Star Game, making the decision a day before he notched his 3,000th hit at the Stadium.

Jeter cited the need to rest a calf injury that had put him on the disabled list in June."
