Major League Baseball’s Department of Investigations has asked the Miami New Times for the records upon which is based allegations that Cruz and five other major leaguers purchased PEDs. MLB does not have subpoena power.

Daniels said he could not comment on the state of the investigation because it is in the hands of MLB, with clubs not involved. Daniels has not been told how long the investigation will run and when the club can expect a resolution.

Cruz’s agents, Sam and Seth Levinson, informed Daniels that Cruz plans on participating with the Dominican Republic in the WBC. The Rangers expect him to be on time for the first full-squad spring training workout Feb. 16 in Surprise.

“Our expectation is for Nellie to be out right fielder until we hear otherwise,” Daniels said. “There’s nothing fancy about it.”
