For Sixers coach Doug Collins, the first-round series against the Bulls was going to come down to which team controlled the boards. Given that the Bulls led the NBA in rebounding this season, neutralizing the glass was sure to be a tall task for the Sixers.

So it makes one wonder why Collins played his opening day center Spencer Hawes so sparingly in Game 1?

Hawes saw just 10 minutes of action for the first three-and-a-half quarters before bolstering his final total by playing the final five minutes of the game. He missed the only shot he took in his first 10 minutes on the court and picked up a rebound and a pair of fouls.

Whether or not Hawes could have made a difference on the boards is unknown because he didn't get a chance in Saturday's 103-91 loss.
