"Pending final pregame approval, Mike Miller and Mario Chalmers are poised to return to the Miami Heat active roster Sunday against the New Jersey Nets at the Prudential Center.
The two went through the morning shootaround without discomfort after missing recent time with knee injuries.
"We'll see. They're making progress," coach Erik Spoelstra said. "It probably wouldn't be big minutes, but it is encouraging. They're both making progress."
Chalmers has missed the past six games with a sprained right knee.
"I feel good enough to play," Chalmers said after Sunday morning's one-hour session.
Miller has missed the past three games with a bruised and strained left knee.
"I want to play," he said. "It depends what they say, but it's what I'm planning."
The return of the two would be particularly embraced by forward LeBron James, who has had to play increased minutes recently due to the depleted perimeter rotation.
For James, that meant playing 43 minutes Friday in the Heat's 111-92 blowout victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves. It was James' seventh consecutive game with 40 or more minutes and third in a row at 43 or more. Dwyane Wade, by contrast, has played 40 or more just once in the last three games.
"He's a remarkable athlete," Spoelstra said of James. "He could probably play 48 every single night."
Spoelstra said he wasn't looking to play James for all but 5:07 Friday, but with Miller and Chalmers nursing their sore knees, the options were limited."
