Might Teemu Selanne be back in Winnipeg after all?

"We're being tongue in cheek here at Ducks Blog with that question. As much as we've been told, Selanne isn't going anywhere. And we don't even know if The Ageless One is going to grace us and hockey fans around the world with one more NHL season.

But with all signs pointing to the Atlanta Thrashers being sold and relocated to Winnipeg to fill the NHL void that occurred when the Jets moved south to Phoenix, one small enticing nugget is the possibility that Selanne could play a game in the place where he took the league by storm with a rookie record of 76 goals that may never be duplicated.

By the looks of this YouTube video , it is clear that there are a good number of Manitobans who still love the Finnish Flash and would dearly want him to come back to the province . If Selanne, who'll be 41 on July 3, returns to the Ducks after his stellar 2010-11 season, then we need the NHL to make it happen - at least for one night.

The early word is that a new Winnipeg team would guarantee some league realignment but that it might be put off until the 2012-13 season and that it would play in the Southeast Division of the Eastern Conference - where the Thrashers play - for next season instead of a logical placement in the Western Conference's Northwest Division.

In other words, there's no guarantee that the Ducks would have a game scheduled in Winnipeg under that scenario even if Selanne does come back. But if he's in for one more year, it would behoove the NHL to make sure that the beloved Jets fans get a visit from one of their former favorite sons."
