Michigan tight end Jake Butt, who came on strongly at the end of his freshman year, is out indefinitely after tearing an ACL in winter conditioning drills.

Butt only had 20 catches for 235 yards and two scores as a freshman, but he helped the Wolverines come within one play of beating Ohio State with a five-catch, 85-yard performance.

"Jake's done a tremendous job since he's been here," Brady Hoke said in a statement. "He's worked extremely hard and gained a lot of weight to become the complete tight end he wants to be. I think he showed flashes of that towards the end of last season.
