Michael Young has been around the block a few times.
So he knew, in the seventh inning of Saturday’s 7-0 win when facing the most famous reliever of all time, what would happen with a 3-2 count.
Mariano Rivera chucked a breaking ball, which landed a little low. Young, however, started walking back to the dugout before the umpire could call a strike.
“It was a full count and the crowd was going crazy and I took one step out and said, ‘Who am I kidding? This dude is ringing me up,’ ” Young said.
In the matchup, there were a combined 31 years of experience. Young, 36, has seen his fair share of time in the infield, playing everything from second base to shortstop to third base and back again.
