First Period: Nashville had the better of the play, and exited the period with a 1-0 lead. The Predators had an 8-6 lead in shots on goal, an 11-7 edge in faceoffs, and scored when former Stars draft pick Richard Clune made a great pass out of the corner to Craig Smith at the net. Smith scored his second goal of the season at the 13:43 mark.

Second Period: In a penalty-filled period, the two teams combined for six goals, three on the power play. Matt Fraser scored the first goal of his NHL career at the 1:20 mark on a one-timer from the slot, and Reilly Smith followed with his third goal 25 seconds later. Vernon Fiddler and Loui Eriksson added power play goals for the Stars, while Nashville got goals from Roman Josi and Patric Hornqvist.

Third period: Mike Fisher of the Predators made a great move at the 8:22 mark, squeezing between Jamie Oleksiak and Alex Goligoski, and then then threading a backhand between the legs of Stars goalie Cristopher Nilstorp. Nashville controlled the period with a 12-5 edge in shots on goal.
