Miami Heat's Mike Miller expects thumb issue to linger

"Heat swingman Mike Miller could easily consider himself cursed this season.

He's spent most of the season nursing some type of injury, and the playoffs will be no different. Miller will wear some type of protective covering on both hands to prevent further damage to both thumbs. He injured them during the regular season, but said he's ready for the postseason.

"It is what it is," Miller said. "It's just something that you have to deal with and take care of it or fix it during the offseason."

Miller's latest setback came against the Boston Celtics on April 10 when he sprained his left non-shooting thumb. He missed the second half and played just 12 minutes against the Atlanta Hawks before sitting out the season-finale at Toronto.

Miller practiced Friday with a protective brace, but expects to wear something sturdier during Saturday's game against the Philadelphia 76ers.

"We'll brace it up pretty good," Miller said. "Right now, it's just taped but we'll protect it pretty good. Mentally, I'm fine with it. I'm ready to go."

Miller said he is experiencing similar pain to when he tore ligaments in his right thumb during the preseason. The injury required surgery, causing Miller to miss the first three months of the season. He said the right thumb is 100 percent, but the biggest concern with the left is catching the ball."
