"David Wright seems stuck between hops these days at third base, where he is locked in a fielding slump that has seen him make eight errors in his last 10 games, including a botched grounder Thursday in the ninth inning.
Wright, a three-time Gold Glove winner, "just had a (crummy) home stand defensively," Terry Collins said. Since coming off the disabled list July 22, Wright has made 15 errors in 51 games. Wright has played in only 90 games this season because of a back injury, but his 18 errors are second among NL third basemen.
"He'll tell you fatigue is not an issue," Collins said. "It may be an issue. He was out for (two) months. He's only had one game off since he's been back."
"I haven't been playing well," Wright said. "Sometimes there's nothing to say except that you're not playing well defensively. It's the middle of September, so obviously I think everybody's a little tired, including me. But you try to make the plays. Sometimes you make them and sometimes you don't.""
