The Mercer men's basketball team received the No. 14 seed in the in the NCAA Tournament Midwest Regional as announced by the tournament selection committee on Sunday evening.


Mercer is set to face third-seeded Duke on Friday at PNC Arena in Raleigh, N.C., with game time scheduled for 12:15 p.m. The contest will be broadcast nationally on CBS.


Mercer captured the Atlantic Sun Conference's automatic qualifier bid with a 68-60 victory over Florida Gulf Coast on March 9 in the A-Sun tournament final. Mercer's bid to the NCAA Tournament marks the team's third appearance in the event and first showing since 1985.


The Bears completed the regular season at 23-8 (14-4 A-Sun) and stormed their way through the A-Sun Tournament with wins over Jacksonville, USC Upstate and FGCU. Mercer is 0-2 all-time versus Duke and hasn't faced the Blue Devils since Dec. 21, 1997.



SCOUTING DUKE

Duke boasts a 26-8 (13-5 ACC) record after most recently being topped by Virginia, 72-63 in the ACC Championship game. The Blue Devils are 20-3 in the state of North Carolina this season and 5-3 in neutral site games.

Three Duke players average double figure scoring, led by consensus All-Atlantic Coast Conference selection and ACC Rookie of the Year Jabari Parker. Parker averages 19.3 points per game and has scored 20 or more in 18 games this year.

Redshirt sophomore forward Rodney Hood and junior guard Quinn Cook boast averages of 16.4 and 11.3 points per game, respectively. Hood has led or tied for the team lead in scoring nine times, while Cook has netted 10 or more in 18 games.
