McKeon on Ramirez: "We have to keep him smiling"

"After benching Marlins shortstop Hanley Ramirez for missing a team meeting on his first day on the job, manager Jack McKeon likes Ramirez's current temperament.

"He is happy now and full of energy. We've got to keep him smiling," McKeon said.

Ramirez, who had been mired in a season-long slump and was hitting .200 at the time of the benching, has been hit .385 since then, which coincides with McKeon moving him to the cleanup spot in the lineup.

Asked if he knew why Ramirez might have been playing with less energy earlier in the season, McKeon said, "Who knows? I wasn't here then."

Ramirez hit two home runs, including a grand slam, and had five RBI Saturday in the Marlins 9-5 win over the Rangers, and his batting average was up to .230 going into Sunday's game."
