"Willis McGahee pulled off his grass- and beer- stained jersey inside the Broncos' locker room Sunday to reveal a tattered, orange, team-issued undershirt.
On it, over the small Broncos logo, McGahee had written, in permanent black ink, the words "Ball Out."
And indeed, he did.
Less than two weeks removed from surgery to repair a broken bone in his right hand, McGahee tore through the Oakland defense for 163 yards rushing and two touchdowns, including a 60-yarder that tied the game on the final play of the third quarter of Denver's 38-24 victory.
"There was a point where we were just waiting on the big play. Why couldn't it be me?" McGahee said. "It was great blocking by the line, right up the middle, and then I saw that the (defensive back) had his back turned, and I thought, 'There is no way any of those guys are going to catch me.' They might close the gap a little bit, but they're not going to catch me.""
