Out of all the bullet points Andrew McCutchen has on his National League most valuable player resume -- the extra-base hits, defense, the highest batting average in the league as of Friday -- the stolen-base statistics are not where he wants them to be.

When McCutchen stole second in the first inning Tuesday night against San Diego Padres starter Jason Marquis, he did so for the first time since June 19. The steal gave him 15 this season.

"I'm trying to get going here, I'm behind schedule when it comes to that," McCutchen said. "I had some opportunities to go and took that chance a couple times."
