"O.J. Mayo graded himself pretty harshly following the official start of his point guard experimentation with the Grizzlies.
Mayo, the team's 6-4 starting shooting guard of the past two seasons, gave himself an 'F' after running the point Monday night during the Grizzlies' Las Vegas Summer League opener.
And one would think the grade was marked in red ink judging by the sheepish grin on Mayo's face as he analyzed an eight-turnover, three-assist performance in an 89-85 win against the Atlanta Hawks.
"I definitely feel like I can play a lot better," Mayo said. "The goal is to continue to get better and better. I know I said I was going to only play two games. But I might play the rest of the week. I just want to get better."
Mayo said he would consult with Griz coach Lionel Hollins on whether he can extend his point guard experiment to the end of this week.
Memphis will play four more games over the next six days, beginning with a tip-off tonight against Milwaukee .
Mayo will make his second start with the ball in his hands. Once again, he won't be judged by statistics, according to the coaching staff."
