Despite a sore right ankle and Achilles that kept him out of Monday’s practice, Shawn Marion played Tuesday and started strongly, leading the Mavericks in first-quarter points (eight) and rebounds (five) against the Lakers.

“Just hoping we [as a team] can stay healthy and get it going,” Marion said before the game.
But with 1:34 remaining in the second quarter, Marion was injured again.

While playing defense, Marion backed up and tripped over the legs of Pau Gasol and Dirk Nowitzki. Marion fell hard to the floor and lay there for a couple of minutes. He got up and headed to the locker room, rubbing his right shoulder/collarbone area.

Marion did not return for the second half. Wayne Ellington started in his place. The Mavericks described Marion’s injury as a shoulder contusion. X-rays were negative, but Marion will not travel with the team for Wednesday’s game in San Antonio.
