Maurice Jones-Drew, David Garrard upbeat about Jaguars heading into camp

"Quarterback David Garrard and running back Maurice Jones-Drew, the two players who make the Jaguars' offense go, both ended last season on the sidelines with injuries.

Garrard suffered a torn ligament and tendon on the middle finger of his throwing hand and sat out the season finale at Houston. He also missed a game earlier in the year with a concussion.

Jones-Drew missed the final two games of the season with a torn meniscus in his left knee that he played on all season.

Both players put those injuries in the past and were upbeat about their physical condition when they reported to camp Wednesday.

"It's great,'' Garrard said of his finger. ''I've got full flexibility. I can throw the ball just fine. I should be good.''

Said Jones-Drew: "Last year, I was playing on one leg. I have two now. I'm good.''

Jones-Drew, who had 312 and 299 carries the last two years, said he is ready to carry the full load again despite coming off knee surgery.

"They didn't take it easy last year when I was hurt, so why should they do it when it's fixed,'' he said.

It remains to be seen if the Jaguars will limit his activity in camp, but because they'll have only seven padded practices, that might not be an issue.

Jones-Drew declined to give any details about his knee surgery.

"That's G14 classified. That's none of your business. I can't tell you about all of that stuff,'' he said.

Both players were very upbeat about the upcoming season.

Noting the Jaguars have a core of young, developing players, Jones-Drew said, "All we can do is grow. I think last year we had a bunch of guys, their second year in our offense and now it's our third year in the offense together, and we're growing. The sky is the limit for us. I think we should do more than we did last year, personally.''"
