Though you'd never know it by his pitching line, left-hander Brian Matusz took another step forward on Sunday at Rogers Centre. He continues to struggle some with his command, but he looks like he's gotten some things figured out.

He again had to fight the tendency to overthrow, his fastball sailing up and out of the strike zone when he tried to reach back for more velocity. And, interestingly enough, the MASN pitch meter showed that the velocity of Matusz's fastball was a couple miles per hour better when he stayed relaxed and finished his delivery.

Of course, it would have been nice if he could have finished off the sixth inning and registered his first quality start since Oct. 2, 2010. Instead, he got ahead of Rajai Davis on the count with two outs and then walked him and bring Buck Showalter to the mound.
