It's no secret that embattled Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub is on the shortest leash in the league following coach Gary Kubiak's public concession that it was a "real tough" decision to stick with the veteran for this week's game against the St. Louis Rams.

A Texans source confirms to NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport that Schaub's "immediate job status is in doubt." Kubiak won't hesitate to yank his starter in favor of T.J. Yates if the turnovers continue.

It's the belief of the coaching staff that it's "simply not fair to the rest of the team" to keep playing at a disadvantage per Rapoport.

The Texans don't want to give up a $30 million investment over the past two seasons but Schaub is forcing their hand.
