After Matt Kemp insisted a day earlier that he did not want to be placed on the 15-day disabled list, the Dodgers did just that Monday night because of Kemp's sore left hamstring.

"We just feel it's the right thing to do," Manager Don Mattingly said of his center fielder. "We've got to get this thing healthy and healed up."

The announcement came after the Dodgers defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks, 3-1, at Dodger Stadium, a game Kemp sat out. The Dodgers also said they called up outfielder Jerry Sands from triple-A Albuquerque.
