Matt Kemp finds his perfect fit in blue, officially signs eight-year, $160 million deal with Dodgers

"The transition from Rihanna's trophy boyfriend to locking in the richest contract in Dodgers' history appears to suit Matt Kemp just fine.

And by suit, the slick gray checkered one he showed up wearing Friday at Dodger Stadium to officially ink his eight-year, $160-million contract extension hung well on him.

It was all pulled together spiffily with a purple velvet bow tie.

"Another eight years - that sounds good," the 27-year-old said with a laugh while standing at the podium in the Stadium Club. "To be a part of this city and what it stands for is an awesome feeling. I definitely want to spend the rest of my career here. Like Derek Jeter, he's had a career that will probably end up with the Yankees. I want to be there for that."

Kemp had, in fact, just done the Dodgers and whomever becomes the next owner a huge favor, even though this also goes down as being the most expensive and expansive deal in National League history, surpassing the $158 million given to Colorado shortstop Troy Tulowitzki. Kemp's deal ranks seventh-richest in the big leagues.

By signing Kemp now, Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti says it's the equivalent of getting two contracts done at once - one to avoid Kemp's arbitration eligibility now, and another to lock him up before he would become a free agent after 2012. "
