As Avalanche coach Joe Sacco put it well after his team's 7-1 victory over the Minnesota Wild, Steve Downie — the Avs' revelatory new addition to the lineup — "unnerves" people. With biker-length hair, missing teeth and a scowl, Downie definitely looks like a guy you'd want to think twice about messing with.

He's certainly tough, as he proved Tuesday night at the Pepsi Center in returning from a one-game absence after what appeared Saturday night to be a serious shoulder injury. Ignoring any pain he might have felt, Downie added three assists to Colorado's lopsided win, which unfortunately for the Avs didn't gain much of anything for them in the Western Conference standings.
