Matt Cain and Cole Hamels are plenty rested for Game 3

"Matt Cain has had plenty of time to rest, to watch, to think. He has had 10 days off since his last start.

"I'm sure he'll be the same old Matt," catcher Buster Posey said. "Aggressive in the zone, filling it up, letting the defense work."

Cain, the Giants' Game 3 starter, said he has been preparing as usual despite the long layoff, and his plan hasn't changed, either, though the Phillies switched their approach against Game 2 starter Jonathan Sanchez, showing more patience.

"If you're attacking the strike zone, you're kind of putting the pressure on them," Cain said.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy noted that Phillies starter Cole Hamels also will be going on long rest (eight days), and both teams dealt well with layoffs coming into the series.

Stop Ross? Philadelphia Game 2 starter Roy Oswalt was asked how today's starter, Hamels, should approach homer-happy Cody Ross.

"Don't throw it down and in," Oswalt said. "If you can make your pitches, you are going to do well. But if you miss down and in, that's pretty much where he's hitting them."

Ross also just so happens to have the Giants' best numbers against Hamels, his longtime NL East opponent when Ross was with Florida. Ross has a team-high nine hits lifetime against Hamels, and yes, four of those were homers."
