"A day after spraining his right ankle, Derrick Mason missed his first practice of training camp but said he will return "sooner rather than later."

"I'm happy how my ankle has responded," Mason said after Wednesday's practice. "I thought it was worse than when it actually happened. But it settled down."

Mason said the ankle isn't swollen. He simply had it taped."
