"Wide receiver Derrick Mason, signed by the Jets on Saturday, got into the flow immediately in his first practice, catching a pass on the first play of 11-on-11 drills. Mason said with a smile that it wasn't planned.
"No, it was just the way the defense played it," he said. "That defense is very tough, and that was a bang-bang play. The defensive back was all over me, but Mark [Sanchez] put it in the right place. … It felt good. It always feels good to get that first pass out of the way."
The former Raven spent most of the break between Monday's morning walkthrough and afternoon practice getting a crash course in the playbook from receivers coach Henry Ellard. Mason said there are plenty of similarities between the Jets' offense and that of the Ravens."
