Maryland heavyweight wrestler Spencer Myers has been added to the Terrapins’ 2014 football roster as a defensive lineman, the school announced Wednesday morning.

Myers, a rising senior, will continue to wrestle for the Terps this season as well. The Selinsgrove, Pa., native has made his mark in the 285-pound division for Maryland, winning the Atlantic Coast Conference’s heavyweight title in 2011 and 2012. An all-American as a true freshman, he earned 62 wins between his freshman and junior seasons (he served a redshirt year in 2012-2013).

A standout football player in high school, Myers was honored as Pennsylvania’s defensive player of the year as a senior at Selinsgrove High School.

“This is something I have been contemplating since coming to Maryland,” said Myers in a statement. “It was one of the best decisions in my life to wrestle. But an opportunity arose to get a scholarship to play football and it’s something I’ve really wanted to do.
