"Russell Martin went directly to the weight room after last night's 15-3 Yankees victory over the Orioles.
Maybe he's getting ready for a fight.
Martin was not pleased with Orioles pitcher Josh Rupe, who hit him in the back with a 91 mile per hour fastball in the ninth inning. Martin angrily threw his bat away and stared at Rupe as he made his way to first base. The hit by pitch came after Martin drilled two home runs against the Orioles, making everyone in Camden Yards think it was intentional.
"There's no doubt about it," Martin said of Rupe's intent. "I want to stay in the lineup so I'm not going to do anything stupid, but I wouldn't recommend him doing that again."
Rupe, who is in his first year with Baltimore, entered the game in the eighth inning and immediately gave up a grand slam to Alex Rodriguez.
Martin had hit home runs in the sixth and eighth innings, his fifth and sixth homers of the year. When he came up with two outs in the ninth, Rupe threw his first pitch dangerously close to Martin's head."
