"Catcher Russell Martin (back) returned to the lineup after missing seven of the last eight games and made an immediate impact, singling home the Yankees' first run and throwing out two would-be base stealers.

He finished 2-for-4, snapping a previous 2-for-31 slump.

"My back is now pretty much a non-issue for me as long as I just take care of it before the games," Martin said. "Right now there's no stiffness; there's nothing. I expect to be good [today]."

As for those waiting for prospect Jesus Montero to be called up, general manager Brian Cashman has no plans to make that happen in the near future.
