Martin Biron, John Tavares guide Islanders to 4-3 win over Predators to end losing streak

"Biron did his part in a presumed showcase start for a potential trade Tuesday night, helping the Isles halt their season-long losing streak at seven games in his first start of 2010.

Mark Streit's 6-on-4 power play goal with Biron pulled for an extra skater with 11.1 seconds remaining in regulation forced overtime, before the forgotten third-string goalie backed the Isles to a stirring 4-3 shootout win over Nashville at the Coliseum.

"I don't think you could've asked for a better performance (from Biron)," coach Scott Gordon said. "The guy deserves a better fate than what he's had this year."

Bruno Gervais and Freddy Meyer also scored, while slumping rookie John Tavares, who has two goals in his last 27 appearances, netted the winner in the shootout before the Isles scrambled to beat the weather and get to Pittsburgh for another game Wednesday.

Biron, who made 24 saves and stopped three of four shots in the tiebreaker for his first win since Nov. 13, didn't accompany the team despite resurfacing for the first time since Rick DiPietro returned last month from a year-long absence because of knee problems.

Biron made two conditioning starts for AHL Bridgeport last weekend, and with the March 3 trade deadline coming just after the Olympic break, veteran Dwayne Roloson was scratched to allow Biron to start for the first time since late December."
