"Mark Teixeira's seventh-inning single was just his fifth hit in his last 25 at-bats, and he's off to a 2-for-14 second-half start.
"Before the break, it didn't feel good at all. A little fatigue set in," said Teixeira, who feels stronger and refreshed since the All-Star break. "Those three days helped. Now, it's just a matter of getting my timing back."
It's been a mixed season for Teixeira, who has 25 homers, 66 RBI and a .240 batting average - 46 points below his career mark. Teixeira called it "One of the most satisfying and frustrating years for me. I'm hitting the ball hard a lot … but those extra hits aren't coming." He wants to be more patient at the plate.
Hits and misses
Derek Jeter (2-for-5) had an RBI infield hit in the fourth, scoring Brett Gardner - who hustled a double out of a shallow hit to center. Jeter's ninth-inning single was his 3,007th hit, tying him with Al Kaline for 26th place."
