Andy Pettitte and Mark Teixeira will get a head start to the 2013 baseball season as members of Team USA at the World Baseball Classic this spring.

The Yankee teammates are prepared to join manager Joe Torre's squad according to a report by's Jon Heyman, along with Mets third baseman David Wright and reigning NL Cy Young award winner R.A. Dickey, traded from the Mets to Toronto last month.

Yankees' Robinson Cano had already committed to playing for the Dominican Republic.

The WBC teams won't be officially announced until Thursday, but the Yankees have been made aware of Pettitte's and Teixeira's interest to participate according to a club executive. Both Pettitte, 40, and Teixeira, 32, are coming off injury-plagued seasons. Pettitte (5-4, 2.87 ERA) missed nearly three months after fracturing a bone above his left ankle due to a line drive on June 27 – limiting him to 12 starts. Teixeira (.251, 24 HR, 84 RBI) missed 30 of the final 31 regular-season games due to a strained left calf.
