It was a rare admission for a power hitter.

But when Mark Teixeira stepped to the plate in the eighth, with the Yankees trailing the Tigers by one run, he already had the desired outcome in his mind.

Said Teixeira: "I was trying to hit a home run there."

Teixeira blasted a Joaquin Benoit pitch over the right-field fence, just before Eric Chavez followed by punishing a hanging change-up. The back-to-back homers powered the Yankees' contentious 4-3 victory over the Tigers.

"I don't do it all the time, but I know against a guy like Benoit, he's not going to give up a lot of hits," Teixeira said. "So you just try to click him. You try to get a good pitch to hit and I got a 2-0 pitch to hit."
