Shawn Marion was known for mainly being a player who could fly out on the fast break when he played for Phoenix, Toronto and Miami. But in Rick Carlisle's system, he has added a post game to his repertoire.

"It became clear to him and us with the way our team is structured that if he was going to be a starting [small forward], playing significant minutes at the [small forward] position, that was an area where he could give us an advantage."

Marion scored 16 points and had 10 rebounds in the Game 1 loss to Miami on Tuesday night.

Rick Carlisle said he's been receiving some words of wisdom during these playoffs from Larry Bird, his former boss with the Indiana Pacers.

"Larry and I are in touch a lot," Carlisle said. "He was particularly active on the texting during the Laker series.
