The Maple Leafs reach the halfway point of the season Wednesday with their home game against Ottawa and the view at this point is promising.
The Leafs have accomplished some of key points in their mandate for improvement — cutting down goals against, improving special teams, increasing net presence, cutting down on turnovers and improved overall defensive play from the goalie out.
Toronto appears headed for playoff berth and there’s no indication the club will follow last year’s team that folded so dramatically down the stretch.
Toronto undeniably is playing good hockey under head coach Randy Carlyle. The players all say they are growing comfortable in their roles and have bought into Carlyle’s systems.
