"When Luke and Brayden Schenn sat down to dinner on Wednesday night with various members of the Maple Leafs and Flyers, they ate steak.
But there was also something generally meatless on the evening's menu: The Saskatoon-born brothers spoke about the trade rumours that would have Luke, who currently plays for Leafs, being shipped to the Flyers, for whom Brayden plays forward.
"(The Luke-to-Philly rumour) has obviously been tossed around for the past month and a bit," Brayden said. "It's hard to go around naive and don't read anything or hear anything or watch TV. You come to the rink the next day and there's going to be someone talking about it. Obviously (Luke's) name has been tossed out there over the past month and a bit. But those are just rumours and I guess we'll see what happens."
Exactly how the Leafs and Flyers will proceed as the Feb. 27 trade deadline approaches is anyone's guess. There's been much speculation that the Leafs have interest in acquiring James van Riemsdyk, the 6-foot-3 forward who could conceivably fulfill Toronto GM Brian Burke's stated wish of acquiring more size up front. Van Riemsdyk, currently out with a concussion, did not take the ice in Thursday's morning skate and is not expected to play when the Leafs meet the Flyers at 7 p.m. at Wells Fargo Center."
