Bellamy, who will spearhead City's charge against the Premier League champions on Sunday, admitted he wanted to link up with compatriot Ryan Giggs at Old Trafford.

The 34-year-old claimed his advisors met United officials and that Sir Alex Ferguson was keen to pip Cardiff to his signature.

"It’s true – my advisor had a conversation with United in 2010, shortly before I came to Cardiff on loan," he said.

"It was great to feel wanted, and I would have loved to do it – but it was never going to be allowed to happen.
