An unidentified New Mexico man really wanted to be Johnny Manziel’s new teammate. According to the Associated Press, the former high school football player walked onto the Cleveland Browns practice field Tuesday with an equipment bag hoping to get a tryout.

Perhaps he heard about Josh Gordon’s possible suspension and figured the team was desperate for depth at receiver. Maybe the movie Draft Day made him believe that any potential prospect, no matter how obscure, can just roll up to the Browns facility and possibly make the team. There’s the possibility he was inspired by the entrepreneurial ruthlessness of another New Mexico resident and decided to make his own destiny, casting aside regard for societal norms.

Professional athlete tends to fall along President, rock star and astronaut among the list of potential careers that plenty of kids aspire to when they’re eight, but actually shy away from by 22 after the realization that they just don’t have the specific skill set for the vocation. While it would be crazy for someone to show up to NASA headquarters expecting to fly a spacecraft, there’s something about sports that makes certain people think that they’re just one opportunity away from an All-Pro career.
