"A man suing former Detroit Pistons star Allen Iverson for $2.5 million who claims he was pummeled by the NBA player's bodyguard wants a peek at the hardcourt hero's financial records, rap sheet and other personal information.

Iverson's lawyer asked a federal judge Monday to deny the requests, saying they are irrelevant and an invasion of privacy.

Iverson is being sued by an Ohio man, Guy Walker Jr., who claims he was assaulted in April 2009 by one of Iverson's security guards at the South Beach Pizza Bar nightclub inside the Fisher Building.

One of Iverson's bodyguards that night was future Detroit Police Chief Ralph Godbee.

"Whether Mr. Iverson purchased pancakes at IHOP that morning or on the following morning has no bearing on any issues in this case," Detroit lawyer Michael Cafferty wrote in a document filed Monday in U.S. District Court in Detroit.

Iverson was paid an estimated $154 million in salary during his career, but has been dogged by reports of financial and gambling problems in recent years.

At the time, Godbee was retired from the police department, running his own consulting firm, and working on a private security detail for Iverson through a company called Stealth Investigations. Godbee rejoined the department in July 2009 as assistant police chief and was named chief last fall.

Walker's lawyer has asked for all email accounts, phone numbers and home addresses used by Iverson the last five years and five years' worth of financial records. The request also asked for names of everyone ever hired by Iverson to provide security, information about fights involving Iverson's security guards since 2001 and details of any incidents, including "verbal altercations" involving the NBA star.

"Under these circumstances, it would be grossly unfair and excessively burdensome to require Mr. Iverson to attempt to piece together every situation where he has ever so much as had a 'verbal altercation' or 'argument' with anybody at any time in his life," Cafferty said."
