Samir Nasri has told Sky Sports News that he suspected he would not be picked for the World Cup by France.

France manager Didier Deschamps opted to leave Nasri out of his squad for the upcoming tournament in Brazil, despite the 26-year-old's successful season at Manchester City.

"I was prepared," he said, when asked about his non-selection. "I knew before, sometimes you have the feeling.

"When you want to speak with the manager, but he doesn't want to speak with you, you know that you're not going to go to the World Cup!

"I was prepared mentally. It was a shock but I was prepared mentally, so I'm OK."

Many Manchester City fans are surprised about Nasri's omission after he capped a strong finish to the season by scoring the opening goal in Sunday's title-clinching 2-0 win at home to West Ham.

"When people are talking like that, it means at some point you did something good," Nasri added. "So it's a good thing.
