The soap opera that is Malik McDowell and his parents continues to be the lone remaining storyline left over from National Signing Day nearly two weeks ago.

The five-star defensive end from Southfield, Mich., announced earlier this month that he would be signing with Michigan State. His parents, particularly his mother, have made it clear that they do not want their son playing his college football in the state of Michigan. As the custodial parent and because her son is under the age of 21, McDowell’s mother must sign the National Letter of Intent; thus far, she has refused.

McDowell’s father recently told multiple media outlets that his son would be taking visits to both Florida State and Ohio State. The younger McDowell, however, has other plans — including no visits — and remains firmly committed to playing for the Spartans. In a series of tweets sent out by‘s Josh Newkirk Sunday afternoon, it appears that the player is merely biding his time until officially signing with MSU.
