"Don't be surprised if Vince Carter, Dwight Howard and Jameer Nelson play extended minutes when the Orlando Magic face the Atlanta Hawks on Monday night at Philips Arena.

"They really haven't had to play big minutes yet," Magic coach Stan Van Gundy said.

Van Gundy wanted to play each of them about 33 to 34 minutes when the Magic played Saturday night, but Van Gundy had to limit their playing time because the Magic were routing the Chicago Bulls so decisively.

Carter is averaging almost 26 minutes per game this preseason. Howard has played almost 30 minutes per game, while Nelson is a bit above 27 minutes per game.

Howard typically is one of the NBA's best conditioned players year-in, year-out, and he doesn't think he needs extra minutes."
