The Magic, a night after clinching home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs, began postseason preparations in earnest Wednesday night by resting starting shooting guard Jason Richardson against the Charlotte Bobcats.

Richardson has been bothered by tendinitis in his left knee for a while, said coach Stan Van Gundy.

Gilbert Arenas, the club's back-up point guard behind Jameer Nelson, started in Richardson's place.

"We had planned that from the Toronto game [the Magic played Toronto on Sunday]," Van Gundy said of Richardson.

"He's had some tendinitis and has really been playing in pain for quite a while. We planned it for this time so he can take a couple days off. We can get him three days and get things calmed down pretty good."

The Magic will take Thursday and Friday off.
