"Detroit Tigers outfielder Magglio Ordoñez emphasized today that because Miguel Cabrera has special baseball talent, he must not let his behavior impede himself.

"Miguel is the franchise player of this team," Ordoñez said. "He understands that they are building the team around him. He needs to pull everything together.

"He is a superstar, and he needs to act like a superstar. He needs to work hard."

Ordoñez was asked whether he has told that to Cabrera.

"I told him before, and I will tell him whenever he shows up," Ordoñez said.

Today was Ordeñez's first day in Tigers camp. It remains unclear when Cabrera will report following his DUI arrest Wednesday night.

Ordoñez said he will support Cabrera, but he spoke bluntly about the slugger's latest transgression.

"He made a mistake," Ordoñez said."
