"As Magglio Ordoñez got going, Max Scherzer kept going.
Scherzer continued his unbeaten season Wednesday night by rolling through the New York Yankees for eight innings at Comerica Park in a 4-0 victory. He allowed four hits, fanned nine and didn't allow anyone to reach third base.
"I'm very pleased," Scherzer said. "That's a very good team with some of the best hitters in the game."
This latest era of Yankees excellence goes back to 1994. According to Baseball-Reference.com, Scherzer became the second Tiger in that time to have a scoreless outing of at least eight innings against them; Mike Maroth one-hit New York in 2004.
Ordoñez, who got his second RBI of the season the night before, hit his first homer of the season."
