Erik Karlsson was one of the two Ottawa Senators who didn't practise on Wednesday, which should keep the conspiracy theorists busy.

But coach Paul MacLean says there's nothing amiss. Karlsson, who missed Tuesday's game against the Pittsburgh Penguins after suffering an upper-body tweak while preparing for the game, was kept out of practice as a precaution.

MacLean said it is his expectation - note the large amount of wiggle room - that Karlsson will play tonight against the New York Rangers.

"I think it was just something in his preparation, whether it was playing soccer or getting manipulated or whatever he was doing in his pre-game routine, but I don't know exactly what it was," said MacLean.

"Erik should be fine. We just want to make sure."
