Ilkay Gundogan is reportedly on the verge of joining Manchester City - with his current employers at Borussia Dortmund refusing to deny a deal is imminent.

The German midfielder is on the Blues' wanted list ahead of the arrival of Pep Guardiola as manager Manuel Pellegrini's successor in the summer.

And City football director Txiki Begiristain was recently pictured meeting Gundogan's uncle and agent Ilhan in Amsterdam.

Reports in German newspaper Bild and in this country say the 25-year-old will join the Blues after agreeing a five-year contract - with an official bid of around €30m expected soon.

Dortmund coach Thomas Tuchel said: “I can’t confirm the transfer."

He added: "And shouldn’t it be the other way round? We have to announce it.”
