No one is ready to publicly say "Game Over" yet. But as much as Matt Garza wants to pitch again this season, the reality is that the Cubs will likely have to shut him down.
There's no motivation to fast-track Garza, who's dealing with a stress reaction in the back of his right elbow and watching the window close on 2012.
"I don't want to say (it's) unlikely that he'll be back, but it'll probably take a lot of hard work and some things to happen in the healing process," manager Dale Sveum said Tuesday at Wrigley Field. "You're going to run out of time basically to rehab, throw all the sides (and make) the rehab starts wherever that might be at the time, so it'll be kind of tough."
Looks like Cubs will be in shutdown mode with Garza
