" It has been eight years since Tom Brady and his Patriots came to the Meadowlands and tasted defeat. It seems about that long since their offense has been made to look this -- offensive.

The unit that scorched the rest of the NFL in 2007 is clearly sputtering and trying to find its way two games into 2009. The Patriots didn't find the end zone once in a 16-9 loss yesterday, got rattled into a host of un-Patriot-like procedure penalties, and saw Brady hurried and harassed into a miserable afternoon.

The Pro Bowl quarterback -- who missed last year with a torn ACL and MCL -- was just 23-of-47 for 216 yards, no touchdowns and an interception.

"He looked frustrated," Shaun Ellis said of Brady. "I could see it in his eyes."

If Brady was, it was understandable.

"We didn't do much. We're not firing on all cylinders," said Brady, who looks far removed from his MVP, league-record 50-TD form of two years ago. "To not get the ball in the end zone, that's unacceptable. I have to do a better job, that's No. 1. I have to do a better job making reads, not committing penalties, making accurate throws, good decisions. If you don't get the ball in the end zone, it's not a good day for the quarterback."

Brady -- the pressure forcing him to throw off his back foot -- was intercepted once, hit seven times and hurried (unofficially) at least 15 times. And after a sad 56.1 first-half rating, he got worse in the second, going 8-of-20 for 66 yards and a 49.2 rating. His Pats went 0-for-3 in the red zone, the first time they'd been that bad since Oct. 26, 2003, according to Elias Sports Bureau.

"I think the frustration sets in when we know we kick ourselves in the foot," said Patriots receiver Randy Moss, who was held to four catches for 24 yards. "With the firepower we have, it gets a little frustrating. I'm not going to sit here and lie." "
